Will KL Rahul play for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener? Even DC captain Axar Patel is clueless about Rahul’s availability against the Lucknow Super Kings (LSG).

For those who are unaware, Rahul was the final DC player to join the squad at Vishakhapatnam. Rahul, who won the 2025 Champions Trophy with the Indian cricket team on March 9, did not join DC until yesterday (March 22). Instead of joining DC, the wicketkeeper batter opted to practice in Mumbai with Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

Rahul will miss the initial matches for personal reasons, as previously reported. While we don’t know what these ‘personal reasons’ are, it’s reasonable to presume they’ll be related to the birth of his first child with his wife Athiya Shetty.

Axar confirmed that Rahul had joined DC. However, he is unsure whether he would be eligible for the encounter against LSG on March 24 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

“Obviously, he joined the team. We don’t know yet (if he’ll play). Right now we don’t know if he is available or not,” Axar said on the eve of the match.
