Who will replace Trent Alexander-Arnold? Liverpool are in advance talk with the star
Liverpool have had ‘advanced talks’ with Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as they look to replace departing Trent Alexander-Arnold. Frimpong has increased his value in Germany and the Reds are looking at him as a potential summer signing.
Anfield are playing short-handed while having to find the enormous space vacated by Alexander-Arnold, whose contract has lapsed before being headed to an upcoming transfer at Real Madrid. Frimpong has performed on a Leverkusen team which won the Bundesliga and German Cup double last season.
The 24-year-old, who is capable of playing in his traditional right-back and wing-back positions, is ready to leave the Bundealiga club this summer and that is facilitated by the presence of a release clause in his contract. Sky Germany suggests that Liverpool can sign him for nearly £30million.
There had been rumors of Conor Bradley being brought in to replace Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool’s go-to right-back, but it seems they might be looking to bring in some quality to offer competition for the academy star.
Liverpool, having won the title in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, will be looking to be busy in the transfer market after failing to make any big signings 12 months ago. The Reds require further depth with their Dutch manager operating with an extremely limited pool of players this season.
Frimpong on Liverpool
Frimpong had earlier stated that “Liverpool is a great club with history.” His work rate in Germany has been evident and out of his 189 appearances, he’s produced 29 goals and 44 assists. He’s also established himself as a key player in the Netherlands team having been on the bench for the Euro 2024 semi-final loss against England.
The Dutchman was once a Manchester City player, arriving at the club aged nine and remaining there just short of ten years. He decided to depart and move to Celtic, where he was immense. That made Leverkusen snap him up in January 2021.
The German club are in for a summer of upheaval as they fall victim to their success. Xabi Alonso has come good as a manager and bid farewell to the fans at the weekend. He is going to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

On the field one of the best players of the team in Jonathan Tah will become a free agent this summer. Bayern Munich and Manchester United both have been touted with the defender, who reportedly prefers a transfer to the Premier League. Manchester City on the other hand have been rumoured with Florian Wirtz.
