IPL 2025 will restart this week on Saturday (May 17) with the battle between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, the BCCI said on Monday (May 12). As many as 17 matches will be played across six venues with the last one scheduled for June 3. Play-off venue details will be announced later. In a statement, the board acknowledged that they made the decision to go ahead with the tournament ‘following intensive consultations with government and security agencies, as well as with all the major stakeholders.’

The updated schedule will have only two double headers, both on Sundays. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be played on May 29 and 30 respectively. The second qualifier will be held on June 1.

While the remaining part of the tournament is said to be held in the three southern cities – Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, the board has pinpointed Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai and Ahmedabad instead, besides Bengaluru. Teams like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings won’t have their remaining home games played at their respective home venues. Delhi will stage the last home game of CSK vs RR on May 20 as well as the last home fixture of SRH vs KKR on May 25. Neither of these two teams is in the running for a playoff spot.

It is also worth mentioning that the May 8 abandoned match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings will be rescheduled on May 24 in Jaipur.

Other than that match, PBKS will host their remaining two matches in Jaipur too with Mohali not being one of the venues for the resumption. Mumbai Indians, who are in the hunt for a playoff spot, will be able to host their last home match at the Wankhede against Delhi Capitals on May 21.

When that match in Dharamsala got cancelled because of border tension between India and Pakistan, the board decided to hold up the tournament for a week. Some overseas players already left the country and one cannot say how many of them will return to play in the tournament given international commitments are around the corner.

There will be attention on the Australia and South Africa Test stars specifically as the World Test Championship Final is set to get underway on June 11, which is hardly a week following the end of the IPL final.
