Virat Kohli Also Needs to be Dropped From Test Cricket?

Virat Kohli Also Needs to be Dropped From Test Cricket?

At the outset of the Sydney Test, Rohit Sharma dropped from the side, or perhaps he rested himself, which did not surprise anybody. There have already been reports that the tour’s skipper will not participate in the final Test due to poor performance in the series thus far.

He has only scored 31 runs in three matches, at an average of 6. For the second time in the series, Jasprit Bumrah took the lead, and rightfully so.

Perhaps it was the correct decision not to put Rohit, who was a sitting in bad form, at the mercy of the Australian spinners. But, if Rohit as captain can be sacked, why can’t Virat Kohli, another senior member, be dropped?

Kohli has been awful, if not as poor as Rohit. Except for his second-innings tonne in Perth, Virat has been quite average, being dismissed seven times in eight innings in the series, all on deliveries outside off.

It appears to have become the norm for the Australians to bowl that fifth stump line to the batsman, and Virat just responds with a crazy poke. This occurred again on Friday, the first day of the Sydney Test. He stole one from Boland but was caught in the slips by Beau Webster. He has now scored only 184 runs in five matches, with an average of 26 throughout the series.

Virat’s Poor Record in Tests Since 2020

However, Virat Kohli has not performed poorly in this or previous series. He has been grappling with the longest format for a long time. Since the beginning of 2020, he has been impoverished by his own lofty standards. He has averaged only 31 in 39 matches since January 2020, scoring only 2022 runs, three tonnes, and nine fifties. He has five ducks to his name.
