The Premier League has always been a tournament in which the best of the best compete and emerge as the league’s top scorers. With players such as Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, and many other great attackers having played in the English Premier League, the list of all-time highest goalscorers is intriguing.

1. Alan Shearer – 260 (441)

Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer. Unless Harry Kane decides to return to England for another period, the Englishman’s record will most likely be protected for some years.

The striker is a legend at both Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, where he has played extensively in the league. Shearer scored 260 goals in 441 games and won the Golden Boot three times.

2.  Harry Kane – 213 (317)

Harry Kane departed Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2022–2023 season. He surpassed Wayne Rooney’s record to become the second-highest scorer in league history. Despite having a lot of individual success, the footballer was unable to win the league with Tottenham. He opted to join Bayern Munich and has continued his impressive form.

3.  Wayne Rooney – 208 (491)

Wayne Rooney, one of Manchester United’s all-time greats and top goalscorers, is only the third player to have scored over 200 goals in the tournament. He also played briefly for Everton and is presently the manager of Championship club Plymouth. Rooney won 17 titles at United during his 13-year tenure. The former English international is one of just two players in Premier League history to have scored and assisted on more than 100 occasions.

4. Andy Cole – 187 (415)

Andy Cole, one of the few Premier League attackers with over 400 games, scored 187 goals. The Englishman retired in 2008. Throughout his career, he played for Manchester United, as well as Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United, Manchester City, and Newcastle United.

5. Sergio Aguero – 184 (275)

Sergio Aguero resigned from football in the end of 2021, only months after joining Barcelona due to a health issue. He only played for Manchester City in the Premier League, where he scored 184 goals in 275 matches. The Argentine earned the Golden Boot once, after his efforts during the 2014-15 season.

6. Frank Lampard – 177 (611)

Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s former manager, is a famous figure inside the club. The Englishman is the lone midfielder among the Premier League’s leading scorers. One of the club’s most frequent players, he appeared 611 times in the league, scoring 177 goals and providing 102 assists. He also played for Manchester City briefly.

7. Thierry Henry – 175 (258)

Thierry Henry, Arsenal’s renowned striker, scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League games. During his time in England, he was widely regarded as the finest forward in the world, captivating spectators with his flawless technique and finishing. Henry earned four Golden Boot trophies across five seasons in the early 2000s.

8. Mohamed Salah – 164 (273)

Mo Salah is the only player on the list who is currently in the Premier League. Salah joined Chelsea in 2013 but made only 13 league appearances. Following a season with AS Roma, he returned to the English Premier League with Liverpool and has since been unstoppable. He has 164 league goals in only 273 games. The Egyptian King has a chance to score a few more goals before leaving Anfield.

9. Robbie Fowler – 163 (379)

Robbie Fowler, a Liverpool legend and current head coach of Al-Qadsiah, scored 162 goals in 379 league games. While the striker spent the majority of his career at Liverpool, he also played for Manchester City and Leeds United, among other clubs.

10. Jermain Defoe – 162 (496)

Jermain Defoe has had success with various English clubs, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. He played in the Premier League 496 times, scoring 162 goals. After a time with Sunderland, he retired in 2022.
