“Can’t Wait to be Back” Suryakumar Yadav is Ready to Lead Team India in Asia Cup 2025

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, is looking good for a comeback ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup, having begun batting practice in the nets. SKY is now recovering at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru after surgery for a sports hernia.

Suryakumar Yadav is Ready to Return

Suryakumar Yadav posted a video on Instagram this Friday of him batting, doing drills, and running. He captioned it, saying he’s excited to get back to what he loves. Word is, he started practicing his batting late last week after getting to the CoE (previously known as NCA).

Suryakumar Yadav had an amazing IPL 2025. He was named Most Valuable Player with 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians, who made it to Qualifier 2. Only Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans scored more runs than him in the whole tournament. SKY is also now only the second MI player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to score over 600 runs in a season.

SKY took over as India’s T20I captain after his MI colleague Rohit Sharma resigned down after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has captained India in 22 matches, winning 17. In 83 Twenty20 Internationals, SKY has scored 2,598 runs with an average of 38.2 and a strike rate of 167.07.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20 format, will take place in the UAE from September 9 to September 28. This will be India’s first significant T20I assignment since winning the World Cup last year. Suryakumar is likely to captain the team if he heals in time.

BCCI will probably drop the Asia Cup team news in the third week of August. India’s kicking things off against UAE (the home team) on September 10, and then it’s the big one against Pakistan on September 14. The ACC says we might even get two more India vs. Pakistan games if both make it to the Super 4.
