South Africa announce 15-member squad for WTC 2025 Final against Australia
Hours after Cricket Australia revealed its 15-man squad for the final of the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, Cricket South Africa on Tuesday, May 13, revealed their team for the top-of-the-table clash, to be contested from June 11 to 15 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Proteas Men will be captained by Temba Bavuma, following his having led them to historic victory against Pakistan.
With Bavuma in charge, the team has been supplemented by the likes of Kagiso Rabada, who will be captain of their pace attack after serving his ban on use of recreational drug recently. The pace attack will be supported by the likes of Lungi Ngidi, with Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch and Wiaan Mulder.
On the batting side, top-order batsman Matthew Breetzke is left out, while CSA has promised to vouch on the likes of Tony de Zorsi, Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram. The middle order will be featuring the likes of Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham and skipper Bavuma, with Kyle Verreynne manning the wickets.
Speaking following the announcement, head coach Shukri Conrad stated, “First and foremost, I would like to congratulate all the players picked for this team. It is a special moment for this group of players to be competing in the WTC Final.
We’ve worked extremely hard over the last 18 months to construct a competitive red-ball unit, and this success is a testament to that progress.”A consistent selection has been a major contributor to our success, and we have remained with the core group of players who have been included in this WTC cycle. We have picked a well-balanced team for the conditions that we anticipate at Lord’s,” he added further.
