Shahid Afridi Accuses Umpires of IPL Bias After India vs Pakistan Clash
Shahid Afridi Slam Umpire: The India-Pakistan faceoff of the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four in Dubai produced exciting drama on and off the field again. The Men-in-blue continued their winning streak with a commanding showing with the ball, causing a quick turn to a contentious dismissal of Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman, which produced plenty of outcry from former cricketers including Shahid Afridi.
Fakhar Zaman’s Out Got People Talking
It happened early in Pakistan’s innings when they were chasing a score. In the third over, Hardik Pandya bowled a ball that Fakhar Zaman edged to the keeper, Sanju Samson, who caught it pretty low. Zaman had already hit three boundaries and looked good.
The umpires on the field weren’t sure, so they asked the third umpire to check it out with replays. Ruchira Palliyaguruge, the third umpire, said Zaman was out, even though the replays made it look like a really close call that could have gone either way.
Zaman, who had scored 15 runs off just 9 balls, looked bummed as he left the field. Pakistan was then under pressure early in their chase.

Shahid Afridi Accuses Umpire of Bias
After the match, ex-Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi targeted umpiring standards with a terrorist-like bullet and alleged that the Indians were their favorites. Answering on Samaa TV, Afridi insinuated that the officials were making biased calls to secure IPL umpiring contracts.
“They also have to officiate the IPL matches. The benefit of doubt has to go to the batter — the ball was clearly grassed,” Shahid Afridi fumed.
This is not the first time that Afridi’s comments have triggered a new uproar. His statements have caused being debated fiercely all over both Indian and Pakistani cricket circles.
Assistance from Mohammad Yousuf
Former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf is also present on the same panel and supported Shahid Afridi’s remarks, declaring that the move broke Pakistan’s momentum at a critical moment in the game.
Yousuf emphasized that such dismissals due to contentions in a pivotal contest can alter the pace of play, emphasizing that Pakistan’s chances were negatively affected after Fakhar’s wicket.
Afridi’s History of Controversial Remarks
This isn’t the first time Afridi has been in the news during the Asia Cup 2025. A few weeks ago, the former all-rounder had a heated argument with Irfan Pathan, a former Indian fast bowler. They exchanged strong words on TV and online.
Afridi’s recent comments about the umpires have made the rivalry even more intense, making sure that the India versus Pakistan games are just as exciting off the field as they are on the field.
India vs Pakistan rivalry, has always been an epic tale of fierce passion, fire, and sometimes controversy. Once again, questions about the umpiring standards in top-tier matches have been triggered by Fakhar Zaman’s wicket in Dubai.
Considering that Pakistan is still going through the difficult part of the Super Four stage and the debate about umpiring would still be very heated, this discussion is very far from being finished. If Afridi’s remarks lead to an official reaction or just another rivalry chapter, what’s clear is that India vs Pakistan clash is still the most fascinating drama of cricket to hold on watch.
