Randy Orton’s Heel Turn Incoming? 4 Bold WWE Plans After KOTR 2025 Loss

Cody Rhodes Defeats Randy Orton in KOTR 2025

WWE fans were left slack-jawed at the dramatic conclusion of the 2025 King of the Ring Tournament, with Cody Rhodes getting the victory over Randy Orton at Night of Champions 2025. This also set up The American Nightmare with a title shot against John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2025.

However, as much as the spotlight was cast on Rhodes, all eyes were on Orton, who definitely seemed to be frustrated, if not nearing a heel turn. With WWE Evolution 2 (an all-women’s PLE) next, Orton may not be scene for a little while, adding fuel to the fire of Orton’s next big story.

Let’s look at four potential options for The Viper to take following his emotion-filled loss at KOTR 2025.

4. Randy Orton Takes Time Off and Returns Before SummerSlam

Since Evolution 2 will be a female-only event, WWE may send Orton off for a small break, to recharge and add intrigue, or simply to come off of television for distraction and provide creative time to plan his next feud.

He could return either:

  • A few weeks before SummerSlam, igniting a sudden feud, or
  • Make a shocking appearance at SummerSlam 2025 at MetLife Stadium, possibly to interfere in Cody Rhodes vs John Cena.

3. Randy Orton Moves to Monday Night RAW

Moving brands also gives Orton a new start. Orton has been on SmackDown for quite a while, moving to RAW also opens new possibilities for new rivalries with new faces.

The most exciting option?

  • Randy Orton vs Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The two already have unfinished business, and this match could be a top draw heading into the Fall season.

2. The Heel Turn: Orton Costs Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam

Whether they plan an injury angle or not, Randy Orton looked far from happy after his loss. Not even when Cody Rhodes tried to pay him respect post-match did he acknowledge Cody in any shape or form.

Additionally, it’s interesting to note that Triple H had Orton try to hit a Punt Kick during the KOTR final, which he had been known for and is what would be considered an old school heel turn by The Legend Killer.

WWE could book:

  • Orton interferes at SummerSlam 2025, costing Rhodes the title vs Cena
  • A major feud reignites: Orton vs Rhodes 2.0
This could be a classic veteran vs peak-star storyline with real emotion and history.

1. Feud with Nick Aldis: GM vs Legend Killer Showdown

In recent months, Randy Orton and SmackDown general manager, Nick Aldis have had some tough moments. Yes, Orton is yet to face physical punishment for his RKOs, but Aldis certainly has not held back on being an authority figure.

But, when it comes to bringing Aldis back into the ring, SummerSlam may be the perfect opportunity:
