“I Don’t Want to Be Just a White-Ball Star” – Punjab Kings Star Player Stated before His Ranji Trophy Debut
Priyansh Arya, the young batting sensation from Delhi, has become the talk of the cricketing world due to a combination of fearlessness in his strokeplay, regularity in the form of consistent performances, and his ball-bashing antics across formats. After grabbing the headlines with power-packed performances in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) and an impressive debut season for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, Arya can now shift his focus to a new target, red-ball cricket and Ranji Trophy.
As a left-handed batter who prefers to score quickly, Arya is looking to advance to the next stage of his career and prove he can handle the rigours of the more traditional form of the game by playing red-ball cricket for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. For Arya, this next landscape in his cricketing journey is one of evolution and adaptability.
I Want to Play Red-Ball Cricket” – Arya’s Bold Goal for Ranji Trophy
At the Outer Delhi Warriors’ jersey launch, Arya said he’s serious about playing first-class cricket.
“After DPL, I will start preparation for red-ball cricket… I hope I can make my red-ball debut and not just remain a white-ball specialist,” he told PTI.
Arya clearly wants to get better, and his coach of many years, Sanjay Bhardwaj, is still helping him. Bhardwaj also coached Gautam Gambhir.
“Bhardwaj sir is the only one I talk to about what and where I lack. He advises me to work on the same,” Arya added.
IPL 2025: 475 Runs & a Growing Fanbase
In his debut IPL season, Arya scored 475 runs in 17 matches, averaging 28 and striking at a staggering 179.24. He registered two fifties and a breathtaking century, showing he belongs on the big stage.
“After IPL, people recognize me more… it feels good when people ask for selfies. It gives me a sense of pride,” Arya said.
However, the pain of losing the IPL final still lingers.
“Losing the IPL final still hurts. Until we win the trophy, that feeling will remain,” he added.
DPL Dominance & Six Sixes in an Over
Arya really made a splash in the first DPL T20 back in 2024. He scored a crazy 576 runs in only 8 games!
Check out these highlights:
- He hit an amazing 120 runs off 50 balls against the North Delhi Strikers.
- He also scored an undefeated 107 against Purani Dilli.
- And who could forget those six sixes in one over against Manan Bharadwaj?
These games didn’t just get him noticed; they proved he’s the next big batting star from Delhi.
Before making a name in the IPL, Arya was already making waves in domestic cricket. In the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was Delhi’s top scorer, racking up 222 runs in 7 matches with an average of 31.71 and a strike rate of 166.91.
That tournament marked a turning point and set the stage for what came next. With success in white-ball cricket under his belt, Arya is now focused on adjusting to the challenges of long-format cricket. As the Ranji Trophy season nears, all eyes will be on the young left-hander to see if he can turn his aggressive style into consistent performances in red-ball cricket.
Arya is determined not to be seen as just a T20 player; he aims to build a career that shines across all three formats.
