Prithvi Shaw Makes Shocking Move! Joins Maharashtra to Revive Career
Prithvi Shaw Joins Maharashtra Cricket Team: A Career-Defining Move?
Shaw Receives NOC from Mumbai Cricket Association
Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who has been a key figure in Mumbai’s domestic setup since his debut, has taken a significant step by shifting base to Maharashtra. According to an official release by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on July 7, Shaw requested and received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a “professional” cricketer in the upcoming 2024-25 domestic season.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) would like to inform that cricketer Prithvi Shaw had formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player. After due consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC,” said the statement.
Why Did Shaw Leave Mumbai?
With over 4500 runs and 13 centuries in First-Class cricket, Shaw’s talent is undeniable. However, a string of underwhelming performances, injuries, and off-field controversies had pushed the once-promising star into the shadows.
This move is widely seen as a career revamp strategy, as Shaw eyes a return to India’s national team and IPL spotlight. He believes that a fresh environment and a progressive cricketing setup in Maharashtra can rejuvenate his form.
Shaw’s Statement: “Maharashtra Can Help Me Grow Further”
Speaking about his decision, Shaw said:
“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support over the years.”
He praised Maharashtra’s cricketing infrastructure, which has grown rapidly with initiatives like:
- Maharashtra Premier League (MPL)
- Women’s MPL
- Corporate Shield
- D.B. Deodhar Tournament
Teaming Up with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Other Stars
Shaw is expected to bring added strength to a Maharashtra side that already boasts players like:
- Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain)
- Rahul Tripathi
- Ankit Bawne
- Rajneesh Gurbani
- Mukesh Choudhary
His presence adds experience, and perhaps most importantly, provides inspiration and mentoring for the younger players.
MCA President Rohit Pawar’s Reaction
Rohit Pawar, the MCA President, welcomed Shaw wholeheartedly:
“We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s calibre to the Maharashtra team. His inclusion adds tremendous strength… His IPL and international experience will be invaluable.”

📊 Maharashtra’s Recent Domestic Performance
Although Maharashtra had an average performance in some domestic competitions, they have shown signs of growth:
- ❌ Ranji Trophy: Knocked out in the group stage (2 wins in 7 matches)
- ❌ Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Early exit with just 3 wins in group stage
- ✅ Vijay Hazare Trophy: Topped group, reached semi-finals before losing to Vidarbha
With Prithvi Shaw now on board, Maharashtra will look to go deeper in all competitions in 2024-25.
