“Just Another Match”: Mahedi Hasan’s Calm Message Before India vs Bangladesh Asia Cup
The Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 is progressing, and the focus is on the India vs Bangladesh match coming up. The build-up to a match against India is normally full-on, but Bangladesh’s off-spinner Mahedi Hasan has indicated that he like to keep it simple and does not want to be distracted by the hype.
Following a win over Sri Lanka for their first Super Four match, Bangladesh is facing tournament favourites India, who will have Suryakumar Yadav leading them. But Mahedi reiterated that the mentality within the squad is to remain cool and not let the match get to them.
Mahedi Hasan Shrugs Off Pressure Before Facing India
Speaking to reporters, Mahedi Hasan was firm in dismissing the idea of additional nerves ahead of such a high-profile contest.
“Not after winning a match. From the start, we stay normal. The way we are, the way our body language is — we aren’t overthinking. We’re just going out there to play a cricket match. Whether the opponent is India or Australia, that’s not our concern,” Mahedi said.
His words reflect a clear focus on process over reputation, showing that Bangladesh are determined to treat India as just another opponent rather than a daunting challenge.
History Doesn’t Hold Him Back
Bangladesh’s track record against India isn’t great. They’ve only won one out of 17 T20Is and haven’t beaten India in any big tournament. A lot of people might think this history would mess with their heads.
But Mahedi doesn’t care about the past.
“It depends on the match situation. Everything comes down to the match situation,” Mahedi Hasan explained, stressing that the team is more concerned with the present moment than what has gone before.
Blocking Out the Noise
There will always be hype around the match-up when India is the opponent. There will be more media coverage, more social media noise, and more people in the world looking at it as more than a cricket match.
However, Mahedi feels that Bangladesh will not let it be a distraction.
“We’re not thinking about that. That’s created by you (the media) or by the fans. We’re going to play how we’ve been playing every match we’ve played internationally – we’re going to play normally,” he said.
His calmness reflects the approach of Bangladesh in a more general sense heading into the Super Four, which is not to panic, overthink, etc. – but play cricket.
As Bangladesh gets ready to play India in Dubai, Mahedi Hasan’s words show how the Tigers are thinking. They plan to block out all the noise, forget about the past, and just focus on this one game. That’s how they hope to beat the odds.
Mahedi keeps it simple: no pressure, no fear just play cricket.
