Fastest T20 Century Scorer Signs with CSK for IPL 2025: Game Changer Incoming
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the first franchise to be ousted from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The team has been under tremendous pressure after winning only two of its first ten games.
Nothing has gone well for them as CSK looks for answers everywhere. Unlike other teams, CSK has been bringing up players for tryouts midway through the IPL 2025 season, with Urvil Patel’s name most recently gaining traction.
MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have invited up Urvil Patel, who is credited with smashing the fastest century in T20 Indian cricket, for mid-season IPL 2025 tryouts. Urvil Patel was one of three players recently featured in mid-season tryouts conducted by five-time winners CSK, who had already been eliminated from the current season.
The trials were held in Chennai on April 27 and 28. The Times of India said that Mumbai all-rounder Aman Khan and Kerala batter Salman Nizar were the other players chosen to participate in these trials.
Who is Urvil Patel joining with CSK
Urvil has been a successful ball striker in the domestic leagues. Finally, he holds the record for the second-fastest T20 century in history. He scored a 28-ball century while playing for Gujarat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). That amazing knock against Tripura happened two days before he went unsold in the IPL 2025 big auction.
His overall performance in the SMAT 2024-25 was outstanding, with 315 runs in six games at an incredible strike rate of 229.92. Despite his outstanding accomplishments, Urvil has not been picked by any IPL franchise, not even as a substitute player. Interestingly, the Gujarat cricketer has league experience, having previously played for the Gujarat Titans (GT).
While speaking with ESPNcricinfo after CSK’s heartbreaking season-ending loss to the Punjab Kings, Jaffer suggested that he had some news concerning Urvil and the team.
“I’ve heard, I’ve got back room news that CSK have called Urvil Patel, the guy who got a couple of hundred in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I’m surprised that he was not picked by any franchise,” Wasim Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.
He also added, “I was surprised. Even Ayush Mhatre was picked ahead of him. He’s been asked to trial there, so I don’t know what’s cooking there.”
