Dhoni’s Lack Of Intent | CSK Losing Their Rich History Day by Day

On Saturday, April 5, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chepauk Stadium. The Men in Yellow lost by 25 runs, making it a humiliating contest. Following the setback, the five-time winners came under fire from supporters, who faulted the strategy.

Notably, the five-time winners have come under fire for having only one win in four matches, including three consecutive defeats. Fans have claimed that CSK does not appear like the same squad that won five titles, and this article will look at three pieces of evidence that CSK is no longer the same.

1. The Batting Unit Failed

CSK is well-known for designing and building excellent innings. Over the years, the Men in Yellow have made good use of the middle overs, keeping the needed run rate under control with consistent hits and boundaries.

Meanwhile, in the just finished match against DC, CSK lost five wickets in ten overs, although Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni appeared to have given up in the tenth over.

The two stars didn’t even produce terrible deliveries for fours, and it was nothing more than a snooze fest that irritated spectators due to their lack of purpose to strike limits.

2. Doing the Same Mistake Every day

CSK is a squad that learns and adapts to the environment. However, in the current season, the administration has turned a blind eye to supporters’ demands for Ruturaj Gaikwad to begin the innings alongside Devon Conway.

Conway and Gaikwad are one of CSK’s top opening pairs, having scored 849 runs together across 15 innings in 2023 and averaging 56.60 per stand. They also dominated the powerplay, scoring 619 runs at a rate of 8.86. Furthermore, this season, the Super Kings have the lowest powerplay run rate.

However, in the current season, CSK did not start with Conway, and Gaikwad has been insistent about batting at No.3. They also teamed up to play against DC.

3. Failed to Win Matches in Their Fortress

CSK have had dismal seasons, but Chepauk Stadium has been their stronghold, and they have yet to lose there. However, in the continuing season, CSK lost to RCB at Chepauk for the first time since 2008.

DC also recorded their first win over CSK at Chepauk in 15 years. As a result, it implies that something is badly wrong with the Men in Yellow, and they are in desperate need of reform.
