

CSK vs MI: Who is Vignesh Puthur? Take wicket in His Debut Match
The 23-year-old left-arm wrist spinner from Malappuram, Kerala, was bought by the five-time winner for Rs. 30 lakh while the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Vignesh Puthur, a left-arm wrist spinner, was named Mumbai Indians’ Impact Player for the IPL 2025 opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK vs MI) on Sunday, and he dismissed CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Vignesh Puthur has yet to represent Kerala at the senior level. He has only competed for the State at the under-14 and under-19 level. He played for Alleppey Ripples in the Kerala Cricket League, taking only two wickets in three matches. He also appeared in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Vignesh began his cricket career bowling medium pace and spin before being urged to attempt leg spin by local bowler Mohammed Sherif. He had no idea what ‘chinaman’ was, but he kept practicing on his bowling.
He then relocated to Thrissur to develop his cricket career, where he was a standout bowler for St. Thomas College in the Kerala College Premier T20 tournament.
His regular efforts for Jolly Rovers Cricket Club secured him a spot in the Alleppey Ripples KCL squad, which transformed his career.
