AEW is reportedly eyeing ex-WWE star Isla Dawn after her recent backstage appearance during TV tapings.

WWE Releases Her—Now AEW Wants Her Badly! Isla Dawn to Join Soon?

AEW continues to add stars to its roster as in the past year WWE has been actively scooping up AEW’s rising stars, bringing in top names like Mariah May (Blake Monroe in NXT), Ricky Saints, Penta, Rey Finix, and Ethan Page. But it looks like AEW is ready to fight fire with fire, and it may start with signing former WWE tag team champion Isla Dawn.

AEW’s History of Signing WWE Stars

Tony Khan, the president of AEW, is unapologetic about signing former WWE talent. Some have thrived in AEW, such as Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin and MVP, who now are a strong faction in the promotion. Their success indicates that AEW can revive careers and build storylines around former WWE talent.

Who Is Isla Dawn?

Isla Dawn is a Scottish wrestler whose strange character and talent in the ring made her stand out in WWE’s tag team division with Alba Fyre. They held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship while turning in stellar matches with great tag team chemistry and a unique dark aesthetic.

Isla Dawn was released from WWE in February of 2025. Her final appearance was on WWE Speed opposing Shotzi on Feb. 7, which was also Shotzi’s final WWE match.

AEW’s Interest: What’s Brewing?

WrestleVotes reports that Isla Dawn was backstage at a recent AEW TV taping and the word internally is that AEW wants to sign her in the near future. Although AEW has not confirmed this yet, her appearance backstage indicates that a signing is most likely going to take place.

Dawn’s last independent match was in February 2020 against Angel Hayze when she signed full-time with WWE. Should AEW sign Isla Dawn, it will be her first non-WWE appearance in over five years.

What Role Could Isla Dawn Play in AEW?

It remains ambiguous if AEW will promote Isla Dawn as a singles competitor or make a new tag team autour her. Certainly, her dark gimmick and in-ring personality could add a lot to AEW’s growing women’s division, especially with stars like Julia Hart, Toni Storm, and Saraya at the top, it could open a new and re-invigorated space for her to occupy.

There are so many theories by fans already about possible rivalries and partnerships. A match with someone like Skye Blue, or becoming a tag team with Abadon- would be a fun way to introduce the “spooky” side of AEW which fans really dig.
