India vs Oman Asia Cup 2025: Will Suryakumar Yadav Rest Bumrah Before Super 4 Clash?
India vs Oman Asia Cup 2025: Under the leadership of Surya Kumar Yadav, the Indian team is looking to refine its preparations while playing Oman in their final Asia Cup 2025 group stages match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on Friday. India has already qualified for the Super 4s and as such the match will give them a chance to ensure their batters spend meaningful time in the middle after easy run chases in their previous matches.
With a high-voltage rematch against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, the Oman match is timely for India as it looks to verify the combinations it must test before playing against Pakistan, as well as to solidify their batting depth.
India’s Batting: Top Order Needs to Step Up
Abhishek Sharma has been explosive at the start, but he needs to turn those starts into big scores. Shubman Gill has looked solid and needs to bat deeper into the innings and kind of hold things together. After his good showing against Pakistan, Captain Suryakumar Yadav will be hoping that Tilak Varma and the rest of the middle order which includes Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Axar Patel get some quality time out there before the main part of the tournament.
India’s batting lineup has a lot of power. This game is a good chance for them to come together as a unit, especially with four important games coming up in just a week if they make it to the final.
Bowling Strength: India’s Lethal Edge
The bowling department of India appears to be a nightmare for Oman’s batting lineup, which is very fragile. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravorthy are likely to dominate the game as Oman is not doing well, scoring only 67 against Pakistan and 130 against the UAE. None of their batters have managed to score 30 runs or more in the whole tournament so far, which is quite a worrying sign for them against a world-class attack.
The main question is whether Jasprit Bumrah will be available for the game or not. Head coach Gautam Gambhir can choose to give him a rest to keep the “jewel in the crown” fresh for the game against Pakistan, but Bumrah may want to play if given the choice. If he is given a rest, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana can take the opportunity to display their talents in the upcoming game.
Oman’s Hardship Continues
Jatinder Singh’s Oman has already looked out of their depth in this Asia Cup. The batting has been brittle, with limited finishing ability against the higher-end teams. Hammad Mirza and Aryan Bisht have looked lively in patches, but, overall, they have lacked partnerships, which has been their nadir. They are up against an Indian team in devastating form, so Oman will need perfection to stand a chance.
Venue Notes: Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi
This game is India’s only one in Abu Dhabi for the whole tournament. What’s interesting is that the team’s skipping practice here to cut down on travel time – it’s a four-hour trip! Instead, they’re just coming in on game day, playing, and heading back that night.
The Abu Dhabi pitch usually helps batters, but spinners tend to do well in the middle part of the game. That should be a good fit for India’s team setup.
