Aakash Chopra Drops Big Hint on Shreyas Iyer India A omission
Shreyas Iyer India A Omission Raises Eyebrows
The limited-overs squad of India A against Australia A has once again given rise to speculation around Shreyas Iyer‘s career future. According to the former cricketer Aakash Chopra, it could suggest that he could be in the Test team for the West Indies series.
Recent speculation has certainly coincided with Iyer himself, particularly due to his exclusion from the India squad to play in Asia Cup 2025. Just days after being left out, his name was put in as India A’s captain for the two red-ball multi-day matches against Australia A the announcement coming only four days before this squad was going to going to start their one-day series.
Aakash Chopra’s Bold Prediction
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out the curious case of Iyer’s absence:
“Shreyas Iyer’s name isn’t there in this team. He is playing and doing captaincy in the multi-day matches, but isn’t there here. Is he going to be a part of the Test team? I am just trying to read between the lines,” said Chopra.
Chopra further noted that while Shreyas Iyer may get a Test opportunity, players like Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh are unlikely to feature in the squad.
Should Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Have Played India A Matches?
Interestingly, Chopra also shared his thoughts on senior pros Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not being a part of the India A series. It has been noticed that both players have not played any competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 season, and the fact that they are not there is still creating discussions about their workload management.
Chopra remarked:
“Neither Rohit nor Kohli is playing. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t matter. But when you see their last competitive games, it’s been months. I’m sure selectors must have asked them, and they would have refused.”
India A vs Australia A: Key Details
- Series: India A vs Australia A
- Format: Three one-day matches
- Venue: Kanpur
- Dates: September 30 – October 5
While the focus remains on the youngsters, the looming question is whether Shreyas Iyer’s omission is part of a bigger Test plan.
If Shreyas Iyer makes the India Test team for the West Indies series, it’ll be a big deal for him. He wasn’t picked for the Asia Cup, so getting back into the Test side would mean the selectors still think he’s good for the longer game.
Right now, the fact that he’s not in the India A one-day team could mean he’s being considered for India’s Test matches soon.
