ICC Rankings Glitch: Kohli and Rohit Missing from Top 100

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Removed Due to ICC Rankings Glitch

The cricketing community was both shocked and baffled when the International Cricket Council (ICC) released their newest one-day international (ODI) rankings on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, and both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did not appear anywhere in the list of the top 100 ODI batters in the world. India’s two finest batters were suddenly missing from the top 100 most prolific ODI run scorers in history, which led to much speculation, confusion, and even retirement talk!

Internet Buzz: Retirement Speculations Begin

When Kohli and Rohit suddenly vanished from the rankings, social media went wild. Fans started wondering if the two Indian legends were about to call it quits in ODI.

Just a week before, Rohit Sharma was the second-highest-ranked ODI batter, and Virat Kohli was fourth. So, their quick drop led to all sorts of guesses, from a mistake by the ICC to maybe updates in the rankings for strategy.

The retirement hashtag started trending fast, which made the ICC have to say something.

Official Confirms ICC Rankings Glitch

Luckily for fans, the ICC confirmed that it was just an error. Cricketing authority Wisden reported that the ICC confirmed the mistake and quickly corrected the rankings.

As of writing, the updated rankings list Rohit Sharma right back to No. 2 and Virat Kohli at No. 4 in the ODI batting rankings.

ICC also confirmed:
“Several issues with this week’s rankings are being investigated.”

Other Cricketers Hit by the Glitch, Too

It’s funny, but Rohit and Kohli weren’t the only ones messed with. The glitch also brought back some retired cricketers in the ICC rankings, which just made things even more confusing.

Some of the guys who showed up again for a bit included:

  • Faf du Plessis
  • Steve Tikolo
  • Alex Obanda
  • Thomas Odoyo
  • Anshy Rath

But, hey, they fixed it later, and now the rankings show the right top 100 players.

Why Rankings Are Key

ICC player ratings are key as they show how well and often a player does. For stars like Kohli and Rohit, their spots show years on top in world cricket. Any mix-ups, like a sudden vanishing, stir up trouble among fans and the cricket world.

The short absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the ICC ODI ratings was just a tech error, but it showed how deep fans care for their stars.

With both back in the top 100, the talk is now on how they play as India gets set for new games.

For now, fans can take it easy no goodbyes, just a slip-up!
