Dewald Brevis Creates History with Record-Breaking Century in 2nd T20I vs Australia

The cricket world witnessed fireworks in Darwin as 22-year-old South African batting sensation Dewald Brevis lit up the Marrara Cricket Ground with a blistering century in the second T20I against Australia. His 41-ball ton not only dismantled Australia’s bowling attack but also etched his name in the history books.

Fastest Hundred and Multiple Records Shattered

Brevis’ century came off just 41 balls, making it one of the most explosive knocks in T20I history. In doing so, he became:

  • The youngest South African to score a century in T20 internationals (22 years).
  • The highest individual scorer against Australia in the shortest format.
  • Only the second player in T20I history to score 20+ runs off five different bowlers in the same match.

His assault was evenly spread — 30 runs off Glenn Maxwell (8 balls), 26 off Josh Hazlewood (9 balls), 26 off Adam Zampa (13 balls), 22 off Sean Abbott (13 balls), and 21 off Ben Dwarshuis (13 balls). This rare feat had previously been achieved only by Reeza Hendricks against Pakistan in 2024.

Dewald Brevis & Stubbs Turn the Game Around

The Proteas found themselves in trouble early at 57/3, but Dewald Brevis, alongside Tristan Stubbs, engineered a sensational comeback. Their 126-run partnership shifted momentum firmly in South Africa’s favour.

Brevis’ fearless strokeplay was matched by Stubbs’ composure, ensuring South Africa posted 218 runs on the board. While the target could have touched 230 with stronger death-overs hitting, it was still a formidable total.

South Africa Seek Redemption After First T20I Loss

Having lost the opening match, Aiden Markram’s men entered the second T20I with a point to prove. Kwena Maphaka, the teenage pace sensation who took 4 wickets in the first match, will again be crucial alongside senior pacer Kagiso Rabada.

For Australia, the chase demands a rapid start, and all eyes will be on Tim David, whose power-hitting dismantled the Proteas’ bowling in the first encounter.
