“Wasim Akram’s Big Statement: Why Babar Azam T20 Comeback is Must for Asia Cup 2025”
Wasim Akram wants Babar Azam T20 Comeback for Asia Cup 2025
Wasim Akram, former fast bowling extraordinaire of Pakistan, has offered full support for star batter Babar Azam and has pushed for his return to the Pakistan national team for the 2025 Asia Cup.
Babar has not played for Pakistan’s T20I team since he faced South Africa last December, and following that game when he faced ridicule over his strike rate, critics have outlined that Babar should not be part of the 2025 Tournament. However, Akram agrees, a player of his class and experience is key to Pakistan’s success in high-pressure tournaments.
Wasim Akram told Geo News that if it were up to him, he’d bring Babar Azam back to the national T20 team.
“If I had the authority, I would definitely include Babar Azam in the national T20 team. The Asia Cup and then the World Cup are approaching, and we need a senior batter. Fans may recall that when he represented Somerset in 2019, he scored runs at nearly a 150 strike rate.”
Akram also pointed out that Babar can change his batting style depending on what the team needs, which could be a big advantage when playing against strong teams.
Babar Azam T20 Comeback Ideal for the Team
Akram talked about how key batter Babar is, especially when they are chasing runs:
“When we are chasing 140 or 160, we need someone who can take responsibility and guide the team. Babar is among the world’s best players.”
The former cricket star said that batting at number three is great for Babar, but he also made it clear that Babar can bat at any spot, as he can play in many ways.
Asia Cup 2025: Big Test for Pakistan
The Asia Cup 2025 starts September 9, and everyone’s waiting for the India vs Pakistan game on September 14 in Dubai. Pakistan wants to field their strongest team, and Akram thinks Babar Azam being there could really make a difference.
Akram separately called on supporters to support Babar and not criticize him:
“He has done it before and he is capable of doing it again. We should surround him at times like this.”
With the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup around the corner, this can be a collaborative effort for Babar to quieten his critics and demonstrate his match-winning abilities once more.
