“Selfish Milestones?” Dale Steyn Criticize Jadeja & Sundar’s Milestone Drama
South Africa’s legendary fast bowler Dale Steyn appeared to support England under Ben Stokes, challenging the reasoning of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar pursuing their personal “milestones” when a draw was certain.
India’s rejection of England captain Ben Stokes’ proposal to end the game early and agree to a draw in the 4th Test of India’s tour of England at Old Trafford in Manchester has ignited a passionate discussion throughout the cricketing community.
Numerous cricket analysts have supported India for maintaining the essence of the game within the regulations, while England’s behavior during matches has faced backlash for being seen as ‘complainers.’
Dale Steyn Criticize India
The game was heading toward a draw when Stokes asked the umpires about shaking hands to end it. But Jadeja and Washington decided to keep batting, since they’d gotten India out of a tough spot after giving up a 311-run lead in the first innings.
At the same time, South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi backed India’s choice, saying they had every right to turn down England’s offer for a draw.
“Why is there such a big deal being made about the Indians choosing not to accept the offer to end the game in a draw immediately? The offer was made. The offer was rejected n they were fully entitled to make their choice. They got their 100s which they worked hard for. Game over,” South African spinner Shamsi posted on X.
In response to the post, Steyn concurred that the Indian pair performed admirably but noted that India Should have accepted a handshake after securing the match.
“Shamo (Shamsi) this onion has many layers to it, and each one will make someone cry. The only issue I see here is the one thing people aren’t realizing, the batters weren’t playing for 100s, they were batting for a DRAW. That was the goal,” Dale Steyn wrote on the reply.

“Draw the game. Once that was accomplished, and a result was out of the question a handshake was offered, that’s the gentlemanly thing to do right? It’s not then the time to realize they safe and now say no we’d prefer some free milestones… although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd. That said, they did bat well, and maybe with the last hour approaching they should have been more aggressive in reaching those milestones, at least then, we could all agree, no team tried to out do the other in this weird situation,” Dale Steyn also added.
