Shocking Reason Behind Harry Maguire’s Absence From Man United US Tour!

Shocking Reason Behind Harry Maguire’s Absence From Man United US Tour!

With the 2025/26 season upon them, and without European football for the first time in many a season, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has named his squad for the U.S. leg of the Premier League Summer Series. While among the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, one omission that has stunned fans is that Harry Maguire will not be traveling with the squad.

Why Isn’t Harry Maguire in Man United’s US Tour Squad?

Surprisingly, Harry Maguire, one of Manchester United’s most experienced defenders, won’t be part of the pre-season tour in the U.S. Even though he played 40 games last season and is important to Amorim’s system, Maguire is missing due to a personal issue, as confirmed by Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst.

“No Harry Maguire in #mufc tour squad due to a personal matter.”

There’s hope within the team that the former captain will join up later once this is sorted out.

Youth Movement: Amorim Goes All in on Youth

While the senior players were missing, it is clear to see Amorim’s faith in youth. Young up-and-comers Tyler Fredericson, Reece Munro, and Diego Leon have all made the squad, injecting some much-needed youth and enthusiasm into the squad.

Fredericson made his senior debut last year and is expected to become a regular under Amorim.

Midfielders Jack Fletcher and Sekou Kone both kept their spots from the Sweden camp and will continue to develop under Amorim.

Big Names Missing: Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, and Malacia

Along with Maguire, other key players like Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony are also absent. These players are reportedly looking at summer transfers, as Amorim aims to rebuild the squad.

Their absence might signal a change in approach, with the manager focusing on creating a close-knit, young team that can develop together for the future.

New Defensive Core: de Ligt, Yoro & Heaven Move Up

With Maguire absent, Amorim will be left with a new defensive structure. Recently acquired Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Ayden Heaven are all recently acquired items in the travelling group. This indicates Amorim’s desire to evolve the defensive shape with center-backs that play a modern style.

Matheus Cunha Joins After Family Milestone

On a lighter note, striker Matheus Cunha joins the squad just after the birth of his second child. His addition, along with Lisandro Martinez (who is still recovering from injury), brings some experience to an otherwise young team.

What This Means for Man United’s Future

This tour could be the start of a new era under Ruben Amorim. By leaving out some of the older players and giving chances to academy graduates and new signings, the Portuguese manager is building a strong foundation for the future.

United fans have plenty to look forward to—Amorim isn’t afraid to make bold moves, and the Premier League Summer Series will offer the first glimpse of the team’s new direction.
