Significant setback for England squad, captain unavailable for 3rd match against India due to groin injury

The England Women’s cricket team has suffered badly, as captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has now officially been ruled out of the third T20I against India Women. The third of the five-match series will take place at the Kennington Oval, London on July 4, and comes at a time when England is down 0-2 and in a must-win situation.

ECB Confirms Injury: Who Will Replace Sciver-Brunt?

On July 3, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Nat Sciver-Brunt has a left groin injury that will prevent her from being available for the Oval T20I. Scans will then determine the extent of the damage and whether she is available for any of the remaining matches.

In order to fill the leadership void, the ECB has appointed Tammy Beaumont as a Stand-in Captain. Hampshire batter Maia Bouchier has been called in as a replacement in the squad.

“Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the third Vitality IT20… Results of the scan will determine whether she is required to miss any more games,” said the ECB.

What This Means for England

With the absence of Nat Sciver-Brunt, England has a real lack of leadership and all-rounders. Tammy Beaumont is experienced, but England needs to mobilise quickly to avoid a series whitewash. Focus will be on how younger players Maia Bouchier and Alice Capsey handle the pressure.
