Activist HM Venkatesh claimed in his case that Virat Kohli encouraged “gambling through IPL,” which provoked the audience and resulted in the disaster. A petition has been lodged against cricketer Virat Kohli, part of the RCB team, at Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru concerning the stampede on June 4 near Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in 11 fatalities and many injuries.

Authorities have stated that no FIR has been filed as of now.

What the police reported regarding Virat Kohli

According to the news agency ANI, police stated that the complaint against Kohli will be examined within the context of the current case and assessed as part of the ongoing inquiry into the matter.

In his grievance, social activist HM Venkatesh alleged that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is “not a sport but a form of gambling that has tainted the game of cricket.”

“Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action,” Venkatesh stated on his interview.

How many people have been arrested in Bengaluru Stampede case up to now?

On Friday, a Bengaluru Sessions Court ordered four individuals, including senior RCB official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to be held in judicial custody for 14 days regarding the stampede incident.

The four individuals were apprehended in a collaborative operation by the Cubbon Park police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early morning of June 6.

The Karnataka high court provided temporary relief to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials who requested to dismiss the FIR lodged against them regarding the stampede.

In its temporary ruling, the High Court instructed state police to refrain from taking any forceful actions against them until further updates. The hearing has been postponed until June 9.

KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam, along with other officials, approached the High Court to request the cancellation of the FIR.
