Why Chennai & Hyderabad Got No IPL 2025 Matches in Revised Schedule – Weather Twist Explained!
As the drama of IPL 2025 continues to unfold, fans of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were in for a surprise when the BCCI released the revised IPL 2025 schedule. Among the most notable updates was the complete exclusion of Chennai and Hyderabad as match venues for the remainder of the tournament.
According to the new schedule released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the remainder of IPL 2025 will begin on May 17, with the final set for June 3, 2025. A total of 17 matches are scheduled to be played across six venues, but neither MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai nor Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will host any of them — despite both CSK and SRH still having one home fixture left each.
🌧️ Why Were Chennai & Hyderabad Excluded?
So why has the BCCI left these two iconic venues out of the remaining schedule?
According to reports from The Indian Express, the answer lies in the weather forecast. Meteorological data and local forecasters have warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in both Chennai and Hyderabad over the next few weeks.
Had the matches gone ahead as per the earlier plan, there was a significant risk of washouts, which would have disrupted the flow of the tournament and impacted broadcasting, logistics, and viewer experience. As a preventive measure, the BCCI likely consulted the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and decided to relocate the fixtures to more weather-friendly venues.
While this is disappointing news for local fans, the decision reflects a proactive approach by the organizers to ensure the remaining matches can be played without weather interruptions.
📉 CSK & SRH Are Out of IPL 2025 Playoff Contention
Adding context to the exclusion, it’s also important to note that both CSK and SRH are already out of playoff contention. This makes their remaining matches less impactful on the final standings and allows the BCCI some flexibility with rescheduling.
🟡 Chennai Super Kings’ Performance IPL 2025:
CSK, the five-time champions and one of the most followed teams in IPL history, have had a disastrous season. With just 3 wins in 12 games, they are at the bottom of the points table with 6 points and a net run rate of -0.992.
Their remaining two matches — against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) — are now more about playing for pride than playoff dreams.
🟠 Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Struggles:
SRH haven’t fared much better. In 11 matches played so far, they have managed only 3 wins, with one match abandoned due to rain. Sitting in eighth position with 7 points and a net run rate of -1.192, the Hyderabad-based franchise is also mathematically eliminated from the top 4.
Their final three fixtures — against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — offer little more than a chance to end the season on a positive note.
🗓️ Remaining Matches of CSK & SRH in IPL 2025

SRH | 3 | LSG, RCB, KKR |
These matches will now be played at neutral venues, likely in cities with favorable weather forecasts and logistical support.
