Barcelona is Trying to Sell This Star but the Player Want to Fulfilling His Contract

In spite of increasing speculation about his future, Andreas Christensen has no desire to depart Barcelona this summer.

Indeed, in accordance with SPORT, the Danish centre-back, who was greatly expected to leave at the season’s end, desires to honour his contract at the club until 2026.

The season to date has been an infuriating one for Christensen. Endemic injuries and fitness issues have disrupted his form and availability, and he is now far down the pecking order.

With Hansi Flick in charge, the defensive pecking order has altered. The growth of Pau Cubarsi, the reliable presence of Inigo Martinez, the organizational skills of Ronald Araujo, and the utility man status of Eric Garcia have all curtailed Christensen’s place in the team.

For several months, it was expected that a summer departure would be good for both sides. Christensen would have the opportunity to rebuild his career elsewhere, and Barcelona would reduce the wage bill and have room for other alternatives at the back.

But he has done a volte-face and is set to remain and battle for his spot, although he has not been given any news by the club regarding the extension of his contract.

The conversation of Barcelona is expected after the current season

Christensen is thought to be lining up discussions with both Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco in the coming weeks.

His desire is to leave this challenging season behind him, get his fitness back, and show that he can still be a key player in the team.

He is not keen on an early departure or a loan move. He would like to play his role in Flick’s plan and work his way back into the starting line-up.

Barcelona, though, are in a tricky situation as far as their defensive organization is concerned. Besides having four centre-backs, they are in advanced negotiations with Jonathan Tah, who may join on a free transfer.

The Danes’ international’s wish to remain is commendable, yet the fact of the matter is he might have to experience another year on the periphery if he can’t persuade Flick that he has something different from everyone else.
