IPL 2025: Betting racket busted in Dibrugarh; two arrested
In a massive crackdown on illicit activities related to the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), Dibrugarh police uncovered a betting ring on Friday and detained two people from the Seujpur area.
The detained suspects have been identified as Dibrugarh residents Anil Kabri and Deepak Sahu. According to police sources, the couple had reportedly been running the betting ring for the previous month, enlisting intermediaries to attract players.
The arrests occurred within the authority of the Gabrupathar police outpost. Speaking about the news, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy stated, “We have arrested two people in connection with an IPL betting ring.” We also took their mobile phones and a car.”
SP Reddy stated that the inquiry is still underway, and preliminary results indicate that the racket was operated in a highly coordinated manner inside Dibrugarh.
Sources further indicated that IPL 2025 betting in the neighborhood is frequently aided by intermediaries who target young people, especially in nights when hotels and pubs are full. “Many individuals involved don’t even have a basic understanding of the game but are drawn in by the promise of easy money,” a police officer stated.
