Thomas Müller going to sign a “short extension” ahead of the Club World Cup?

FC Bayern Munich, like all other competing clubs, is dealing with fresh contractual concerns ahead of the next Club World Cup. Among these is the dilemma of how to deal with players whose contracts are about to expire like Thomas Müller. European footballers receive contracts that are good till June 30th. The new Club World Cup goes till July 13th.

The German record champions presently have four players with expiring contracts: goalie Sven Ulreich, defender Eric Dier, striker Leroy Sané, and Müller. At the absolute least, all four will be required to sign “mini-extensions” before participating in the tournament.

Thomas Müller’s Future with Bayern

The fate of German football icon Müller is a hotly debated issue among German football fans. The 35-year-old has never played for another club and may not want to continue his career elsewhere.

Despite Müller’s characteristic sense of humour regarding his contractual position, a Sport Bild story says that the record-breaking veteran is now properly aggrieved that FCB officials have offered little in the way of an extension.

According to the German newspaper, Müller is scheduled to meet with club management this week. The predicted offer may not be the most satisfying. Bayern only wants to grant Müller a “mini-extension” for the upcoming tournament.

Müller is said to have an annual income of €17 million. Bayern may find their finances exhausted after signing costly contracts for players like Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala earlier this year.

It remains to be seen whether Müller can accept being the “odd man out”. “Radio Müller” is a consummate “team player” who is also renowned as one of the most competitive players in German history.
