India U19 Crush Australia: 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Record in Series Win!
India U19 has taken a commanding 2-0 lead in its three-match Youth ODI series against Australia U19, winning the second ODI match at the Ian Healy Oval on Wednesday, by 51 runs. The win was driven by an incredible innings from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and an outstanding spell from captain Ayush Mhatre, highlighting the breadth of talent we see in youth cricket, in India and beyond.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Amazing Fifty Gets Things Going
Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi really stood out with a quick 70 runs off 68 balls. He hit five fours and six huge sixes. Doing so, the 14-year-old broke the record for the most sixes in Youth ODI cricket. He passed Unmukt Chand, a former U19 captain who had 38 sixes.
Suryavanshi now has 41 sixes in just 10 innings. That’s amazing! He’s ahead of Chand and even India’s senior star Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has 30 sixes in 27 matches. His batting showed both power and a maturity that you don’t often see in someone his age. Thanks to him, India bounced back quickly after Mhatre was out early.
Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra (70 off 74) worked together to add 117 runs. This partnership really helped India get their innings under control and set them up for a good score.
Kundu and Malhotra Pile on Runs
Once Suryavanshi was out, wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu (71 off 64) took control of the innings, not only scoring runs himself but also ensuring vital partnerships with the middle and lower order. With his patient innings, India managed to put up a challenging total of 300 all out in 49.4 overs, with Bryom (3/71) and Deshmukh (2/31) sharing the wickets for Australia.
Jayden Draper’s Century Spoiled
Australia’s chase had started well but fell apart at 63/4 as Kanishk Chouhan advanced through a hat-trick as Steve Hogan was dismissed. At 109/6, Australia looked out of it, yet Jayden Draper produced one of the best counterattacking centuries delivered in Youth ODI years.
Draper smashed 102 off 72 with an excellent combination of clean hitting and strategic placing. With the assistance of Aryan Sharma (38), he put together a 112-run seventh-wicket partnership, giving the Australian innings the lift it needed and hope for an improbable chase.
Ayush Mhatre’s Spin Does the Trick to Win the Game
Just when it seemed like Draper would win the game, India’s captain, Ayush Mhatre, bowled a game-changing spell. Using his off-spin, he quickly got rid of both Draper and Sharma, which crushed Australia’s chance to come back.
Mhatre finished with 3 wickets for 27 runs, which meant Australia was all out for 249 in 47.2 overs. India won by 51 runs and took the series!
Score Summary
